Although the family had limited resources to facilitate music at home, Sara’s mother insisted she enroll in piano lessons, a gift her own father wanted for all of his 11 children but could never afford. A love of music runs in Sara’s family. Her late Grandfather Faustino was a music critic for El Norte newspaper, and Professor of the University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey. Her childhood piano instructions lead her to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. where she studied with accomplished musicians learning African percussion, sang in a Gospel choir, learned Latin Jazz, Reggae and played in her first Salsa Band.
Sara obtained a Bachelors in Liberal Studies and Bilingual Education from California State University. Though she worked as a classroom teacher for several years, Music became Sara's focus after the birth of her first child. Frustrated by the lack of early childhood music classes in Spanish, she established Music With Sara. During her travels through Mexico she enrolled in ORFF music classes for babies with her daughter in Guadalajara exposing her to effective strategies to engage children in music education.
Sara would later volunteer as the music teacher for her daughter’s Spanish Language full immersion classroom. The kindergarten teachers were impressed with the vocabulary development of each child through song, and their ability to grasp the language culturally and with joy, The same year Sara was recruited by the school's foundation to expand her lessons and teach music in all of the language classrooms.
Her first CD, Canciones en Español, debuted in 2010. Within a year, schools in New Zealand, London, Argentina, Korea, and in Spain began using Sara's music to supplement classroom curriculum. She has sold hundreds of albums and thousands of users stream songs digitally for educational and entertainment use.
